Boar on Benidorm

Someone asked me if I could engrave a wild boar, so thought best I give it a try... this is the result :-)

"Boar" has been drill engraved using a variety of burs to give the "shaded" appearance to the engraving.

Although it doesn't show well in this photo, there are a few stones, a little grass, and a couple of contour lines engraved around the boar's feet to add a sense of the environment to the piece.

Golf Champs Glasses

These were finished on Saturday morning (nothing quite like cutting it fine time-wise lol). They were presented to the recipients on Sunday... hence the poor quality of the photo, my apologies for the reflections etc.

They have been sand-carved in two stages.

Another new JeansArt design for the guys.

Dartboard has been sand-carved in several stages, with areas then being polished (using a couple of grades of rubber pins in a drill) to give a greater variety to the shading.

Space has been left in the lower area of the beer mug to allow for the addition of a name to personalise the mug.

Cake Toppers Page Added to Blog

Have started a separate page for standard JeansArt Cake Toppers

Here are a couple of the designs I have had sitting here waiting to be photographed for sometime.  New designs will be added to the page as they are developed.

My cake toppers are crafted from 3mm clear acrylic, the lettering and graphics sand-carved on standard designs.

Lighthouse

This little piece will be exhibited in the "Shoebox Sculpture" section of this years Franklin Arts Festival  at the Pukehohe Town Hall from Saturday 29th August to Sunday 6th September.

While not strictly an engraving project, it has an element of engraving with the lighthouse itself (including windows and a door) being engraved after being carved to shape. Also the seagulls and waves (around the outside of the cover, which was the bowl of a crystal port glass) are engraved. The rocks around the lighthouse have been cut out of optical crystal blocks and the whales fluke has been carved out of black opaque glass. The silver trims are all crafted (by me) from sterling silver.

Sorry about the reflections... this wasn't so easy to photograph lol

Measures approx 9cm x 9cm

Cameo style engraving on glass

OK, so I felt like trying out something a little different... cameo style engraving on glass.

This small oil/vinegar bottle first had the hibiscus graphic masked off, then was sandblasted quite deeply (about 1.5-2mm) to leave the hibiscus standing above the background.  The hibiscus was then drill engraved (using a range of burs, no diamonds though) and finally polished.

Many hours of work, and a most enjoyable challenge!

White these techniques would be best used on colour overlay crystal this has worked well as a practice piece.

Something Special For Mum's

With Mother's Day rapidly approaching us here in NZ, I wanted to try something a little different, so here it is :-)

The rose has been sand-carved in multiple stages to give depth and shading to image.

Sand-carved items can be viewed on the Sandcarved page.
